The Golly Hole sinkhole located here is one of the largest collapse sinkholes ever formed.  On December 2, 1972 Hershel Byrd heard crashing noises he thought might be a tornado.  But two days later, hunters stumbled onto the Golly Hole deep within the woods here.  It measured 325 by 300 ft in diameter and 120 ft deep.
