The valley that flows to the falls was formed by a small glacier that flowed into a large glacier.  The small glacier did not cut as deep a valley as the large glacier.  Once the ice melted the small valley opens into the larger forming a spectacular water fall.

Bridalveil Fall

Bridalveil Fall is one of the most prominent waterfalls in the Yosemite Valley in California, seen yearly by millions of visitors to Yosemite National Park. The waterfall is 188 metres (617 ft) in height and flows year round.[2]
