No one knows where the battle was fought but Duncan thinks it was somewhere near Selma.  There have been many artifacts found at Pine Log Creek archaeological site but it is too far south to be Mabila.  More than 1000 Indians died in the battle and maybe as many as 3000.  Over 40 Spanish under de Soto died and de Soto was wounded.

Description

Mabila

The town of Mabila (or Mavila, Mavilla, Mauvilla)[2] was a small fortress town known to Chief Tuskaloosa in 1540, in a region of present-day central Alabama.[1] The exact location has been debated for centuries. Mabila was a Trojan-horse, fake village concealing over 2500 native warriors, planning to attack the expedition of Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto in 1540.[1]
