Description

The Ofnethöhlen at Nördlingen (district Holheim ) are the remains of an underground karst system at the crater rim of Nordlinger Ries . They are located on the southwestern part of the nearly two-kilometer mountain bar - a ridge of limestone, which is also called "the kingdom of heaven." Archaeological finds indicate that the caves from Middle Palaeolithic to the Mesolithic were inhabited. Supra-regional importance came the Ofnethöhlen than in 1908. Stone Age skull burialswere discovered. [1]
