The site is called First Encounter Beach.  On Dec. 7, 1620, Miles Standish, military commander of the Mayflower with about 15 men went exploring for a settlement site. They encountered and fought off about 30 Indians -- no one was hurt on either side. The Indians were enraged because of the theft of their materials and corn.
