MV Dong Fang Zhi Xing (Chinese: 东方之星; pinyin: Dōng Fāng Zhī Xīng; translated as Oriental Star or Eastern Star) was a river cruise ship that operated in the Three Gorges region of inland China. On 1 June 2015, the ship was reportedly struck by either a tornado or a cyclone and sank during a severe weather front, while traveling on the Yangtze River in Hubei Province with more than 450 people on board. At least sixty-five deaths have been reported, and rescue efforts to save more than 370 missing persons are ongoing.
