Comments

The Millbrig "Big Bentonite" volcanic deposit of Late Ordovician 454 million years ago spread over almost 1 million square miles from here in Virginia to as far west as Kansas.  The eruption was related to an island arc associated with the Taconic orogeny.  By mapping the thickness of the ash, it appears that the supervolcano was located in what is today Kentucky.  The exposure is along the railroad tracks.
