The caricatures on the wall are world famous.
Vincent Sardi attempted to attract customers to his restaurant by drawing caricatures of Broadway stars. He hired Alex Gard and they signed a contract that stated that Gard would draw the caricatures for one meal a day. Even after Sardi's son took over the restaurant and offered to change the contract, Gard refused and went on drawing the caricatures for the one meal until he died in 1948. He created more than 700 caricatures.
The ambiance is great but the food is expensive and average.
The Cannelloni au Gratin was $25.75 and fair.
