Unfortunately, the kimberlite here is deeply weathered.  The diatreme contains blocks of fossil-bearing sedimentary rock that were picked up when it was emplaced.  The fossils are of Ordovician age and the closest surface exposures of Ordovician rocks are more than 160 km away which suggests that "some blocks... sank into the kimberlite pipes.  Stop 11 of EchoHawk and Kackstaetter

Description

Kimberlite

Kimberlite is an igneous rock best known for sometimes containing diamonds. It is named after the town of Kimberley in South Africa, where the discovery of an 83.5-carat (16.70 g) diamond called the Star of South Africa in 1869 spawned a diamond rush, and the digging of the open-pit mine, the Big Hole.
