Hoşap Castle

Hoşap Castle (Turkish: Hoşap kalesi, is a large medieval castle located in the village of Güzelsu (previously Hoşap), Gürpınar District, Van Province, Eastern Anatolia, Turkey. It is at a distance of approximately 50 km to the city center of Van. Most of the surviving structure was built by the local Ottoman governor Sarı Süleyman Bey in 1643. Hoşap or Xoşabê means Sunday in Aramaic. It also means "beautiful water" in Persian and "Güzelsu" has the same meaning in Turkish.[2]
