Comments

The rapids on the North Anna River represent the Fall Zone where the Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain geologic provinces.  "Most Atlantic-draining streams have significant knick zones as they transit from the Piedmont to the Coastal Plain geologic provinces; these rapids formed barriers to upstream navigation".  The Battle of North Anna was fought here during the Civil War.  Stop 1-1 Whitmeyer et al.
