On November 14, 2017, there were a series of shootings in the unincorporated community of Rancho Tehama Reserve in California, about 120 miles (190 kilometers) northeast of Sacramento. They resulted in ten injuries plus six deaths, including the gunman. Some of the injuries occurred at the Rancho Tehama Elementary School. Further injuries and deaths were prevented when the school went on lockdown after shots were first heard. The shooter was later identified as 44-year-old Kevin Janson Neal. His rampage started after Neal reportedly killed his wife, and hid her body under the floorboards of their home. Neal's wife was originally considered missing.[1]
