The Lady Franklin Bay Expedition stayed here for about 2 years until moving on to Cape Sabine where 19 of them died before they were rescued.  The shelter that housed the 25 men still remains.

Lady Franklin Bay Expedition plaque

The 1881-1884 Lady Franklin Bay Expedition (officially: International Polar Expedition ) to collect astronomical data, and polar magnetic data. During the expedition, two members of the crew reached a new "Farthest North" record.
