Roman Vicus of Saalburg

View on map:50.269356°N 8.567605°E

Description

The Saalburg is not only the most extensively restored Limes fort, it is also the only one whose vicus (civil settlement) has also been partially uncovered and conserved. The visible part of the Vicus is located to the south of the Saalburg on both sides of the Saalburgstrasse , which in Roman times connected the fort with Nida , the then main town of Civitas Taunensium , which was also the location of another, rear garrison.
