Description

In the summer of 2008, the site of the fort was re-archaeologically examined on behalf of the Archaeological Society in Hesse with the aim of gaining a more accurate picture of the only slightly overbuilt overall system. Non-destructive prospecting methods were used to study the entire fort area, the fort bath, the vicus, the amphitheater and a burial ground, using a combination of geophysical prospecting methods such as geomagnetics , geoelectrics and georadarwere used. The measure was related to the already completed land abandonment of the total area of 7 ha. In addition to the fort, the camp village was also investigated. It was possible to document a large part of the internal structure. Also discovered was a moat that completely enclosed the vicus south of the fort . The findings of a defended camp village at the Limes is so far rare, although similar could be observed at the nearby fort Upper Florstadt .
