Description

During construction work in 1976, a second, smaller bathing facility about 40 meters west of Bad I to the fore, [69] [12] whose remains like the castle belong to the UNESCO World Heritage. Numerous brick stamps from the thermal baths prove the presence of construction crews of the Legio VIII Augusta . The brick stamps and the smaller size led to the conclusion that the bath was built for the number of Elzbrittons. Accordingly, the construction would have been created between 185 and 192 AD, when the in this time window inscriptionally datable Annexkastell the Elzbrittonen originated. The distance to the northeast gate of the cohort fort - the Porta praetoria- is around 100 meters. This system also belongs to the series type and consists of several, staggered rooms. The entry-level changing area ( Apodyterium ) , which was accessed from the northwest, could only be partially cleared. It is followed by the frigidarium , to which a semicircular apse with bath attached to the south wall belongs. The cold bath also begins a developed sewer, which led out into the open under the locker room. North of Apodyterium and Frigidarium are two adjoining rooms, which were heated from the northeast. Both rooms are called Sudatoriumaddressed and are accessible both from the changing room, as well as from the Kaltbad. To the east, the frigidarium was adjoined by a lukewarm temperate zone. Here, too, there is a rounded apse in the south, but with the actual space formed a structural unit. The tepidarium had no tubs, but was used for massages and recreation. After the tepidarium , the ancient visitor again entered the first, smaller caldarium in an easterly direction- a sweat room with a built-in hot tub. In order to maintain the correct temperature, this area has its own boiler room on the north wall behind the tub. The last hot bath area joins again to the east. Here is the larger Caldarium . In the south, there is again a semicircular apse with a cold water basin and east a rectangular niche, in which a hot water tub is installed. Immediately north of this niche, which protrudes from the wall of the bath, there is another boiler room. [18]
