Ukhta State Technical University (USTU) is the largest university in the Komi Republic of Russia. According to the Federal Education Agency of Russian Federation, Ukhta State Technical University officially gained its status not in 1967 but in 1958. Since as early as April 5, 1958, the USSR Ministry of Higher Education issued an order to establish a corresponding faculty branch of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas as a learning and professional training center in Ukhta. On 5 April 2013, USTU celebrated its 55th anniversary.
