Galileo Galilei (Italian: [ɡaliˈlɛːo ɡaliˈlɛi]; 15 February 1564^[3] – 8 January 1642) was an Italian astronomer, physicist and engineer, sometimes described as a polymath.^[4] Galileo has been called the "father of observational astronomy",^[5] the "father of modern physics",^[6]^[7] the "father of the scientific method",^[8] and the "father of modern science".^[9]^[10]
