Galileo Galilei (Italian: [ɡaliˈlɛːo ɡaliˈlɛi]; 15 February 1564[3] – 8 January 1642) was an Italian astronomer, physicist and engineer, sometimes described as a polymath.[4] Galileo has been called the "father of observational astronomy",[5] the "father of modern physics",[6][7] the "father of the scientific method",[8] and the "father of modern science".[9][10]
