On the 28th of January, an earthquake of 7.7 Mw struck on the north side of the Cayman Trough, north of Jamaica and west of the southern tip of Cuba, with the epicenter being 83 miles north of Montego Bay.[2] Schools in Jamaica and buildings in Miami had to be evacuated and a tsunami warning was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.[3][4] Light shaking was also reported on the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico.[5] It is the largest earthquake in the Carribean since 1946.[6]
