On July 18, 2010 a 7.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in New Britain, Papua New Guinea. This quake was the second in a series of two major earthquakes to hit New Britain on July 18, the first one measuring magnitude 6.9.[3] A tsunami warning was issued but later lifted.[4] Some houses in the area of the earthquake were reported collapsed.[5] Three aftershocks above magnitude 5 struck the area, the strongest at M5.3.[6][7][8]
