On 19 February 2020, two mass shootings occurred, targeting two shisha bars/hookah lounges in Hanau, Hesse, Germany. Eleven people, including the perpetrator, were killed and five others injured in the shootings, sparking a police manhunt. The gunman, identified as Tobias Rathjen,[1] was eventually found dead in his apartment alongside his mother, who had also been killed.[2] Authorities are treating the shootings as an act of far-right terrorism.
