Comments

The Fort Dodge gypsum is considered the purest gypsum on earth.  Gypsum is a mineral (calcium sulfate) mined in the region since the 1850s.  The outcrop here is a section that has not been mined.  Gypsum typical forms from evaporation of ocean water in an isolated basin.
