This is where hundreds of the civilians of Saipan through themselves off the cliff rather than be captured, because they thought the Americans would torture, rape, and murder them. It is also called suicide cliff.

These were the locations of pivotal sites during the Battle of Saipan when the United States Marines attacked the Japanese positions on June 15, 1944.
