The Rim Fire is an ongoing wildfire in the central Sierra Nevada region of California. The fire started on August 17, 2013, and is "one of the largest in recent California history".[6] It has burned 192,737 acres (301.152 sq mi; 779.98 km2)[1][7] including backcountry portions of Yosemite National Park. As of August 28 the fire was described as 30% contained.[1] Full containment is expected by September 10.[8]
