The Lufthansa heist was a robbery at John F. Kennedy International Airport on December 11, 1978. An estimated $5 million in cash ($17.9 million today) and $875,000 in jewelry ($3.1 million today) were stolen, making it at the time the largest cash robbery committed on American soil. The robbery was the subject of two television films, The 10 Million Dollar Getaway and The Big Heist, and is a key plot element in the 1990 film Goodfellas.
