The Salina Canyon outcrop here is a classic unconformity. The lower rocks are vertical siltstones and sandstones that make up the Jurassic Twist Gulch Formation. They are a limb of an eroded anticline with younger nearly horizontal sandstones and shales of the Colton Formation deposited on top.
