The site of the capture of Annawon, the sachem that replaced King Phillip after he was killed a few weeks earlier. Benjamin Church with a small band captured him here in early Sept. The two men became friends and Church attempted to save his life but Plymouth would not spare him. He was hung and his head stuck on a pole in Fort Hill for several decades. Church and Annawon camped here the night of his capture and talked.
