The Augusta normal fault dips southeast here. The hanging wall contains metavolcanics (greenschist facies) of the Belair belt which are juxtaposed against footwall gneisses and schists (amphiboliet facies) of the Kiokee belt. The fault is located in the Martin Marietta aggregates quarry which may require permission to enter.
"The northwest quarry benches preserve the Kiokee belt schists and gneisses, and the southeast quarry benches perserve muscovite schist and an orthogneiss sheet. Augusta fault rocks are dominantly fine-grained quartzofeldspathic mylonites.... [whihc] are strongly foliated but not well lineated."
A muscovite Ar date for the Agusta fault rocks is 247.7 Ma. Stop 1 of Dennis.
