In 2014, a volcanic eruption occurred at Mount Ontake (Japanese: 御嶽山), a volcano located on the Japanese isle of Honshu around 100 km (62 mi) northeast of Nagoyaand around 200 km (125 mi) west of Tokyo. It was the first volcanic eruption in Japan that led to deaths since the 1991 explosions at Mount Unzen.
