The Himalayas were formed from the collision of India with Eurasia.  Geologists know that it occurred in the Pleistocene because the youngest sediments on top of the Himalayas are of Pleistocene age.

The Himalayas, also Himalaya, (pron.: /ˌhɪməˈl.ə/ or /hɪˈmɑːləjə/; Sanskrit, hima (snow) + ālaya (dwelling), literally, "abode of the snow") is a mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau.
