In 1993, 127.000 year old DNA was obtained from the fossil remains of a Neanderthal child here.  In addition, the boy's teeth gave scientist an idea of how old he was.  By standard measures of human teeth, the boy was 11 years old when he died but the teeth caps showed that he was actually 8 years old at death.  This suggests that Neanderthals matured faster than humans -- less time to learn from the adults.
