Comments

Great Falls marks the contact between two great geologic provinces: the Piedmont and the Coastal Plain and marks what is known as the fall line which extends from Alabama to New England.  The Piedmont consists of the metamorphic and igneous rocks that formed during the formation of Pangaea.  The relatively flat Coastal Plain is more recent and represents the deposition of sediment as the Appalachians were eroded since the Cretaceous.
