The cables that cross the Atlantic also come ashore near here (10 miles south at  Widemouth Bay).  According to Harding and the Snowden files, this is the site where GCHQ is attempting to spy on the internet.

GCHQ Bude

GCHQ Bude, formerly called the GCHQ Composite Signals Organisation Station Morwenstow, is a satellite ground station located on the north Cornwall coast at Cleave Camp, between the small villages of Morwenstow and Coombe, operated by the British signals intelligence service (GCHQ), on the site of the former World War II airfield, RAF Cleave.
