The 2014 Shanghai stampede occurred on December 31, 2014 near Chen Yi Square on The Bund, where around 300,000 people had gathered for the new year celebration. Thirty-six people were killed and there were 49 injured, 13 severely. As of 3 January 2015, 9 remain severely injured.[2]
