Comments

Michelle Koons was camping with four other hikers here.  When the grizzly bear entered the camp, the others were able to climb trees (including climbing with their puppy).  But Michelle remained in her sleeping bag and the bear attacked and carried her off on August 13, 1967.

Description

Koons was camping with a group at the Trout Lake campsite. A bear invaded their camp, and while other campers climbed up trees, Koons was caught in her sleeping bag, and attacked.  Although Helgeson and Koons were killed on the same night, these were separate attacks by different bears approximately 9 miles (14 km) apart. Both bears were killed two nights after their attacks.[171][172][173]
