37.975694°N 23.721794°E

The Doric marble Stoa of Attalos was presented to the city of Athens by King Attalos II of Pergamon as a thank you for the education he received studying under the philosopher Karneades. The construction was completed in about 159 B.C, but it was later destroyed by barbarians (a Germanic tribe) in 267 A.D. The Stoa was rebuilt and dedicated in 1956.

Description

Stoa of Attalos

The Stoa of Attalos (also spelled Attalus) is recognised as one of the most impressive stoae in the Athenian Agora. It was built by and named after King Attalos II of Pergamon who ruled between 159 BC and 138 BC.
