The view from Fort Hill commands a spectacular view of the surrounding terrain which provided the pilgrims an excellent natural defense. The site of the fort later became Burial Hill. 6/20/2012 4:47:49 PM

Fort Hill was built by the pilgrims in 1621 as a wooden fortress to protect them against attacks by Native Americans. The pilgrims managed to place 6 cannons on Fort Hill on what is now Burial Hill which overlooked their colony below - what is now Leyden St.
