Crowburg Basin outcrop

Comments

The Triassic red beds here within the Crowburg Basin are typical of other basins along the eastern seaboard of the United States.  These basins, which number as many as 36, represent the nascent origin of the Atlantic Ocean as North Africa and North America were rifted apart.  The Pageland Fault (normal fault) cuts the rocks here with the hanging wall moving northward relative to the footwall.
