The Pinnacles Overlook is in Badlands National Park.  The Oligocene Brule Formation is one of the richest rock layers for mammal fossils on earth.  The beds are easily found because of their redish to crimson colors (no fossil collecting is allowed in national parks).

Badlands National Park

Badlands National Park (Lakota: Makȟóšiča) is a national park in southwestern South Dakota that protects 242,756 acres (379.306 sq mi; 98,240 ha)[1] of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires blended with the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie in the United States. The park is managed by the National Park Service.
