On the night of 1 July 2016, at 21:20 local time, seven militants opened fire on the Holey Artisan Bakery in the Gulshan neighborhood and diplomatic area of Dhaka, Bangladesh.[5][6] They also threw bombs, took several dozen hostages, and killed two police officers in shootouts with police.[5] They reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar!" ("God is greatest") during the attack.[6][8]
