The site is an unconformity between the Columbia River basalt and the older granite below. The granite dates to 90 Ma. The unconformity is represented by about a 2 meter thick paleosol. The point here is the best exposure of the unconformity. Stop 1 in Reidel et al.
Description
Columbia River Basalt Group
The Columbia River Basalt Group is a large igneous province that lies across parts of the Western United States. It is found in the U.S. states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, and California. The Basalt group includes the Steen and Picture Gorge basalt formations.
