Comments

The Burlington Fluorite Mine was worked from 1942 to 1972 and produced about 700,000 tons of fluorite ore.  The ore was formed about 54 Ma when a quartz monzonite intruded the surrounding Precambrian rocks.  The monzonite was rich in ore-producing hydrothermal fluids which invaded fractures and formed "fluorite-bearing silicified zones within the monzonite stock".  Good fluorite specimens can be collected along the Overland Rd from this site into nearby Jamestown.  The road was built on the tailings of the mine.  Good specimens are sometimes dark black but when broken open they display ore.  Cubic pyrite can also be found at the site.  Stop 4 of EchoHawk and Kackstaetter.
