Description

The castle of Aracena was erected in the 13th century , in the Islamic period, on an old Muslim fortress . 1 The walled enclosure was divided in two in its interior, with the tower of Homage defending the barrier that divided its interior. Around this was settled the population giving origin to the current urban landscape. During the Late Middle Ages and Modern Age , Aracena continued to grow from Cerro del Castillo to the valley, first as a royal land dependent on Seville and later as a Manor under the jurisdiction of Count Duque de Olivares in the seventeenth century , and later, of the Count of Altamira, who was called Prince of Aracena.
