Description

The Monument to the Heroes of Iquique , initially called "Monument to the National Navy ", and also known to the May 21 monument, is located in the center of Sotomayor Square , between the Prat Pier and the building of the Commander in Chief of la Armada , in the city of Valparaíso ( Chile ). This monument was erected by popular subscription in memory of the naval heroes who fought in the combats of Iquique and Punta Gruesa on May 21 , 1879 . It was inaugurated on May 21, 1886 .
