On 3 April 2024, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck 25 km (16 mi) south-southeast of Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan. It was the strongest earthquake in Taiwan since the 1999 Jiji earthquake, and there have been several aftershocks above magnitude five.
