The 1917 Samoa earthquake occurred on June 26, 1917 at 05:49 UTC. The epicenter was located in the southwest of the Samoan Islands. This earthquake had a magnitude of Mw 8.5, or Ms 8.4, one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded in this region.[2]
