The site here is the location of where Reyno Bartolo's body was found.  He was one of twenty-six men attempting to cross the border from Mexico that were the subject of The Devil's Highway by Urrea.

Description

Migrant deaths along the Mexico–United States border

Migrant deaths along the Mexico–U.S. border occur hundreds of times a year because of those attempting to cross into the United States from Mexico illegally. The number of deaths has steadily increased since the mid-1990s with exposure (including heat stroke, dehydration, and hyperthermia) being the leading cause.[2]
