The Pontifical Biblical Institute (it: Pontificio Istituto Biblico), or "'Biblicum'", in Rome, Italy, is an institution of the Holy See that is run by the Jesuits and offers instruction at the university level. It was founded by Pope Pius X in the Apostolic Letter Vinea Electa in 1909 as a centre of advanced studies in Holy Scripture for the purpose of the effective promotion of Catholic doctrine and studies.[2]
