The Battle of Vesuvius was one of the first, if not the first, battles of the Third Servile War. The rebels led by Spartacus attacked the camp of the praetor Gaius Claudius Glaber at the bottom of the mountain. The battle was Spartacus' first victory over a Roman Praetor.
