The 2016 Ecuador earthquake (Spanish: Terremoto de Ecuador de 2016) is a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador at 18:58 ECT centered approximately 27 km (17 mi) from the town of Muisne in a sparsely populated part of the country and 170 km (110 mi) from the capital Quito, where it was felt strongly.[4] Widespread damage took place, with structures hundreds of kilometers from the epicenter collapsing. At least 262 people were killed and at least 2,527 people were injured.[3]
